This is to ensure that they are truly sustainable businesses.

Good 4 Business team celebrating becoming B Corp Certified

The Journey to Certified B Corporation

Good 4 Business was founded in 2022 with the aim to assist organisations in measuring their social and environmental impact. The business’s creator and owner, Kathy Joyce, completed the B Lab AANZ B Consultants Program and began aiding companies in positively improving their impact on their path to B Corp Certification.

Kathy has led the B Corp Certification process for Good 4 Business and implemented programs and policies within the B Impact Assessment™ (BIA) as the business grew during its first year of operation. Despite being a B Consultant and coaching clients through the BIA, Kathy found the B Corp Certification process challenging. During the start-up phase, the BIA helped define Good 4 Businesses’ impact business model and clarify policies, such as ethical marketing, data, and privacy. This insight into the B Corp Certification process emphasises the rigorous standards set by B Lab.

After achieving a score of 93.6 on the BIA, which is well above the 80-point minimum, Good 4 Business was ready to hit the submit button and begin the verification process. One of the key aspects of the B Impact Assessment was the impact on Good 4 Business’s future sustainability strategy. By the time the BIA was completed, there were clear operational goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste, including energy, water, and hazardous waste.

By clarifying Good 4 Businesses’ values with a B Corp lens, the business identified that supporting underserved communities was crucial to its mission. The company has committed to providing pro bono services to indigenous communities each quarter, and they aim to demonstrate the impact business model’s performance by the time they recertify in three years.

Despite providing B Consultant services and possessing a deep understanding of the B Impact Assessment we found the B Lab Standards to be rigorous, challenging every facet of our business
B Corporation Certification is measured across five pillars including workers, governance, community, customers and the environment

Benefits for SMEs

Good 4 Business is proud to announce that it has officially become a Certified B Corp, joining a global movement of businesses that aim to make a positive impact on the world by leading economic change and promoting inclusivity, equity, and sustainability. By becoming a part of the B Corp Movement, we hope to collaborate with like-minded companies to achieve our shared vision for a better world.

B Corp Certification is a rigorous process that ensures a business adheres to high social performance standards, accountability, and transparency, instilling confidence in its employees, customers, and stakeholders. At Good 4 Business, we have measured our impact across the five pillars of governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment.

We have also publicly declared our commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2030, and we have created a Sustainability Action Plan detailing how we will achieve this goal. In addition, we have conducted a Stakeholder Materiality Assessment to identify our most relevant stakeholders and the issues that matter most to them. The Stakeholder Engagement Report outlines our current position and sets ambitious goals for the future.

Good 4 Business has made its Sustainability Action Plan and Stakeholder Engagement Report publicly available on its website and the B Corp Directory listing, including its B Impact Assessment score details.

Celebrating Achievements

Martin Seligman, a renowned researcher in positive psychology, once said that celebrating one’s achievements can bring “joy, fulfilment, and a sense of accomplishment into your life”, which ultimately contributes to a positive mindset (Seligman 2011). As Good 4 Business celebrates becoming B Corp Certified, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge the milestones achieved during the certification process. These include publishing our first Impact Report, which outlines the goals for our Sustainability Action Plan. For a small business, this was a significant undertaking, but the effort was well worth it as we now have a solid plan to guide our activities in achieving our ambitious targets.

To celebrate this milestone, we are taking a moment to pause and celebrate with our clients, suppliers, the B Lab AANZ team, local business networks, family, and friends who have been part of the Good 4 Business journey to B Corp Certification. In addition, we will also be mindful of the small everyday successes, as described by Avrahami et al. (2020), as we strive to reach our goal of net zero emissions by 2030.

We would like to invite our readers to join the celebration and share their thoughts, experiences, and aspirations for sustainable business practices here. But the celebration doesn’t end there. We extend a special invitation to all business owners, managers, and sustainability enthusiasts to experience the transformative power of sustainability with our complimentary private sustainability strategy call – a gesture valued at $250.

We are proud to be a B Corp and a part of a global business community that upholds high environmental and social impact standards. The B Impact Assessment has aided us in becoming a better business and has provided a framework for continuous improvement, which we will measure again in three years when we recertify.

We also want to take the time to acknowledge that Good 4 Business has not reached this point on its journey alone. Our village includes our wonderful clients, team, stakeholders, and community, who have all contributed to Good 4 Business’s mission and have made this journey worthwhile.
